Signs of a Failing Refrigerator
If you notice any of the following signs, then your refrigerator or cooler may be beyond repair:
Bad compressor: Your refrigerator relies on a compressor to convert refrigerant from vapor to liquid form, so that it can evaporate and cool the coils of your system. This is an essential component, and likely the most expensive component of your refrigerant. If you have a refrigerator with a failing compressor, it may be best to replace the compressor, or the cooling system entirely, since repairs may be more expensive than the cost of a new replacement. Plus, a new compressor will last longer than a repair.
Old age: Commercial refrigerator life expectancy can vary greatly from model to model, as well as the frequency of its use throughout its lifetime. That said, most models on the market will last between 15 and 20 years before they approach the end of their usefulness. If you have a cooler that is approaching that time range, and your refrigerator is going through issues, then you may have a refrigerator that requires replacing instead of repairs.
Temperature fluxuations: If your refrigerator can’t hold a consistent temperature, then it isn’t doing its job. Temperature fluxuations can be the result of a litany of problems. You could have a malfunctioning thermostat, for instance, or your evaporator coils may be freezing over. You may also have multiple problems at the same time. Regardless, you may have to repair or replace your refrigerator system. We can diagnose the source of your temperature fluctuations, and we’ll let you know about the best solution.
Repair costs outweigh replacement costs: If you have an issue with your refrigerator where the costs of repairs outweigh the costs of replacement, then it’s best to swap out your cooler with an upgrade. We’ll let you know the long-term costs and short-term costs of repairs versus and upgrade, and you can decide the best option for your current budget and situation.
